What makes Goldsmiths unique?

Goldsmiths is a world-renowned university that has a reputation for rigorous and innovative academic work; creativity has long been our hallmark. Academic excellence and imaginative course content combine to make a place where creative minds can thrive.

About the Department

Design at Goldsmiths is about questioning. Our students develop critical, creative design practices which both challenge our understanding of the world around us and define new concepts for our future. The Design Fabrication Labs work closely with our academic programs to support our students in achieving the practical outcomes of their concepts and projects, providing a vibrant and dynamic environment for them to experiment with materials and ideas.

About the Role

We would like to appoint a Technical Tutor to join our team of dedicated Labs staff. Passionate about making, with experience of working within a practice based educational environment, you will hold a master’s degree in a design-led, creative practice, and have advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in digital fabrication, 3D modelling, and digital image production (including videography and photography).

About the Candidate

You will initially be required to work directly with our MA Design Expanded Practice students, individually or in groups, to provide technical advice and promote creative thinking. You will guide students to devise clear and informed making strategies and be able to understand and contextualise their projects. You may be required to work on Staff research-led teaching projects, so an open flexibility with a range of design issues is essential.

In addition, you will be required to take an active role in the maintenance and servicing of equipment and Labs areas.

This is a challenging but very rewarding role for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for empowering others.

This is a permanent contract, 0.9fte, 4.5 days per week, throughout the year.

Closing date for applications: Friday 20th February 2026

Interviews will be held: Monday 2nd March 2026

Benefits

We have generous benefits – an agile working environment, 28 days’ annual leave plus 6 paid closure days (4 at Christmas and 2 at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development, and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club, and creative writing classes.
