What makes Goldsmiths unique?

Goldsmiths is a world-renowned university that has a reputation for rigorous and innovative academic work; creativity has long been our hallmark. Academic excellence and imaginative course content combine to make a place where creative minds can thrive.

About the Department

The Department of Computing at Goldsmiths, a vibrant and intellectually stimulating environment, has spent two decades pioneering computing as a creative, practice-based discipline. Our radically multi-disciplinary research spans interactivity, virtual reality, data analytics, quantum informatics, and financial technologies. We deliver on-campus and distance learning programmes for the University of London.

About the Role

This role is part of a 2-year MRC-funded project developing immersive technology prototypes for paediatric medical consultations. Working with Goldsmiths and KCL St Thomas Hospital, you will build XR systems for clinical and artistic scenarios, support artist residencies, and contribute to experimental studies and the final exhibition.

About the Candidate

You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to submission), with experience developing 3D experiences in Unity and/or Unreal and strong knowledge of state-of-the-art Virtual Reality. Good teamworking and communication skills are essential, alongside the ability to thrive in a highly interdisciplinary research environment.

Benefits

We have generous benefits – an agile working environment, 28 days’ annual leave plus 6 paid closure days (4 at Christmas and 2 at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club, staff networks and creative writing classes.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion

At Goldsmiths, University of London, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion shape how we lead, learn, and work. We are committed to building an inclusive and respectful environment, removing barriers and addressing inequalities so that everyone in our community can belong and thrive.
