About the department

School of Global Change

The post will be based in the School of Global Change, home of Anthropology, Sociology, Politics and IR, History and Law at Goldsmiths. We anticipate that the successful candidate will teach on programmes across Sociology and Politics.

Department of Sociology

We are internationally renowned for our critical and creative approach to empirically and theoretically studying society and culture. As a department we are interested in pushing the discipline forward and are known for pioneering ‘Live Sociology’ - focusing on contemporary issues, using innovative methods and celebrating the sociological imagination. About the role

We are seeking to appoint a fixed-term, 0.8 FTE Lecturer on a Teaching & Research post in Sociology with expertise in one or more areas of social theory, political philosophy / philosophy of ethics and political economy. The role involves teaching and convening core modules across our undergraduate programmes BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics and BA Sociology. The successful candidate will also serve as a personal tutor to undergraduate students, providing academic and pastoral support, and will supervise undergraduate dissertations. The role requires a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and student engagement across the department’s undergraduate programmes.

About the candidate

You will hold a PhD in Sociology or another discipline relevant to the role profile. You will have experience teaching and convening undergraduate modules in any of the areas of social theory, political philosophy / philosophy of ethics or political economy. You will have a proven track record of research and publications at excellent national standard with the ability and plans to to produce research of a quality that is at least ‘internationally leading’ (3 star in REF terms). You will bring enthusiasm to contribute to our interdisciplinary undergraduate programmes as well as to the research environment in the School of Global Change at Goldsmiths.
