About the department

The Security Department forms part of the Estates & Facilities Directorate and is responsible for delivering a professional, responsive and customer-focused safety and security service across the Goldsmiths estate. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the team works in partnership with students, staff, contractors and external agencies to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for the University community.

The department provides a wide range of services, including campus patrols, incident response, emergency management, control room operations, access control, CCTV and alarm monitoring, event support, safeguarding and the coordination of emergency responses. Supporting Goldsmiths’ commitment to student well being, inclusion and community engagement, the Security Team plays a vital role in protecting people, property and assets while contributing to a positive campus experience.

About the role

The Campus Safety and Security Control Team Officer is responsible for coordinating real time responses to all security incidents, and events across campus and will be prepared to cover for the Team Leader in their absence. 

Operating from the control room and deploying on-site when required, the role combines expert CCTV surveillance, incident coordination, decision-making in accordance with established procedures, and communication with internal teams and external agencies. 

The role requires a proactive, visible presence across campus to support the Goldsmiths community and maintain high standards of safety and service. This position is essential in maintaining a safe, secure, and resilient campus environment.

About the candidate

You will be a highly capable security professional with extensive experience in security operations, incident management, and control room coordination within complex and dynamic environments. You will have a strong track record of maintaining safe, secure, and resilient settings through effective monitoring, rapid decision-making, and proactive engagement with staff, students, visitors, and external partners.

With expertise in CCTV surveillance, control room operations, and incident response, you will be confident in coordinating real-time responses to security incidents, emergencies, and operational issues. 

You will demonstrate excellent situational awareness and the ability to assess risk, prioritise actions, and deploy resources effectively while ensuring compliance with established procedures and organisational policies.

You will possess strong leadership qualities and is experienced in supporting and guiding front line teams, with the capability to deputise for senior colleagues when required.
