About the department

The department provides cleaning, portering, postal operations, waste management and janitorial services that ensure our buildings and spaces remain clean, functional and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

Our teams play a key role in the daily running of the University, supporting academic activity, events and campus operations with a strong focus on service quality and customer care. Working collaboratively with colleagues and partners, FM Services offers a dynamic, hands‑on environment where teamwork, reliability and pride in maintaining Goldsmiths’ spaces are central to our mission.

About the role

The FM Janitor role supports the aims of the FM Operations Services by delivering high quality janitorial, hygiene, and adhoc cleaning services across the University. This role plays a key part in maintaining safe, clean, and well-presented internal and external environments, responding to emergencies, supporting campus operations, and assisting portering and maintenance colleagues when required. The post holder will work as part of a multifunctional team and undertake a broad range of duties including waste management, toilet cleaning, emergency cleaning response, and rotational hygiene tasks.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the cleaning sector and be confident using a wide range of professional cleaning equipment and machinery to deliver high standards of service across a varied estate. They will be a proactive team player with strong communication skills, able to build positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple departments.

Flexible and customer-focused, they will support both cleaning and portering operations, including moving furniture, setting up rooms and responding to urgent requests.
