About this role

The role holder will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day management of the Department's Pre-Award Team which supports researchers and their host departments in the development and submission of high-quality applications for external funding. This includes primarily research-related opportunities but may also include institutional capacity-strengthening bids or bids encompassing enterprise and knowledge exchange related activities. The role holder will furthermore be responsible for ensuring compliance with due diligence and other funders’ and regulatory requirements pertaining to externally funded research grants. A key priority for this post will be assisting with the development and implementation of improved grant application and management systems and processes, in order to help grow the capacity of Goldsmiths to competitively win external grants and to effectively manage its research income portfolio. The post holder will provide expert advice and support at the highest standards of service and will effectively manage a small team (currently comprising of 2 officers). Responsibilities of the Post:

Oversee the effective operation of the Pre-Award function, ensuring that deadlines are met, that processes for approval/sign-off have been followed, and that academics and their host departments have been provided with timely and effective support.

Manage and lead the team in Pre-Award, supporting development in their roles.

Manage a pipeline of applications in development, working directly with academics and professional staff in departments. This includes (where appropriate): authoring elements of the proposals; ensuring that the proposals meet funders’ eligibility criteria; providing advice on funders’ requirements and processes; making sure that the requisite internal processes before submission to funders are fulfilled and that budget preparations and costings have been correctly completed.
