Design at Goldsmiths is about questioning. Our students develop critical, creative design practices which both challenge our understanding of the world around us and define new concepts for our future. The Design Fabrication Workshops work closely with academic programs to support our students in achieving the practical outcomes of their projects, providing a vibrant and forward-thinking platform for them to experiment with materials and ideas.

We would like to appoint two additional Workshop Technical Tutors to join our team of dedicated workshop staff. Passionate about making, with some experience of working within an educational environment, you will hold a degree in a Design or Art based material discipline. We would like one of the roles to provide an emphasis on textile support. However, both role holders will be competent in, and capable of supporting, a broad range of making skills including but not limited to:

  • Metalwork
  • Textiles
  • Woodwork and furniture making
  • Plastic forming, casting and fabrication

You will be required to work directly with students, individually or in groups; provide technical advice; promote creative thinking; guide students to devise clear and informed making strategies and be able to understand and contextualise their projects. You may further be required to originate and deliver Technical Studies modules to both undergraduate and post graduate students which significantly raise their technical understanding, application, competency and confidence in working with various material outcomes.
