About the Department

Forensic Architecture is an investigative research agency based in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London.  The agency works at the intersection of human rights, law, journalism, and the arts, and produces research and evidence in relation to human and environmental rights cases around the world for presentation in legal processes, media, and cultural forums. Over the past 10 years Forensic Architecture has grown from a small, pioneering research project to an acclaimed research agency with 20+ staff.

About the Role

The Head of Operations is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of Forensic Architecture, including the oversight of all financial, human resources, legal, and administrative matters. The Head of Operations will join at a moment of change and work closely with the Director and senior colleagues to successfully enable this transition and lead the organisation into a new chapter.

About the Candidate

You will have extensive experience in operations and management, ideally in a research context, and/or within higher education or another institutional setting, with strong organisational, managerial, and communication skills. Your experience should include budget management across an organisation; administrative and financial management for research projects; building relationships across a large team as well as with external organisations and partners; and development and implementation of policies, protocols, and mechanisms for internal communication.

Experience of successfully seeing an organisation through change and growth is also required. This could be through scaling a business, managing a capital project, developing a research department or similar.

Benefits

We have generous benefits – an agile working environment, 28 days’ annual leave plus 6 paid closure days (4 at Christmas and 2 at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club and creative writing classes.

Goldsmiths, University of London is passionate about advancing equality and celebrating diversity.
