The aim of the Cleaning and Domestic Services Operative role is to support the Cleaning and Domestic Services team in the maintenance of an excellent cleaning and domestic services provision across the entire Goldsmiths campus by carrying out daily cleaning and janitorial tasks.  

 

Main duties: 

  • To carry out day to day cleaning and janitorial tasks in the assigned locations within the main campus, external areas or in student accommodation daily. 

  • To understand and follow verbal and written instructions in relation to your duties. 

  • To respond promptly and efficiently to any daily requests or emergencies that may arise. 

  • To participate in the provision of periodic and deep cleaning, summer conferences and events cleaning. 

  • To assist in the removal and disposal of waste ensuring waste segregation and identification procedures are followed at all times. 

  • To carry out snow and ice treatments as required following instructions from the Cleaning and Domestic Services Supervisors or the management team. 

  • To carry out kitchen cleans, room cleans and linen changes in the student accommodation areas as requested. 

  • To cooperate with other teams within the Estates and Facilities Directorate as required. 

  • To complete all statutory and mandatory training in line with your contract of employment. 

  • To adhere to COSHH procedures and health and safety procedure and regulations regarding use of work equipment and methods of safe working at all times and report any non-compliance or accidents immediately. 

  • To ensure a clean uniform is worn at all times when on duty including ID cards and to use relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. 

  • To be fully conversant with fire safety precautions and undertake whatever fire prevention and fire safety duties that may be assigned. 

  • To be responsible for any keys and access cards issued and report any security concerns immediately. 

  • Ensure that any cleaning cupboards or other storage areas you are responsible for are kept clean, tidy and organised at all times. 

  • To take responsibility for the safe storage of all cleaning products and materials, ensuring hazardous chemicals are locked safely within the cleaning cupboards. 

  • Report any maintenance faults or other defects identified. 

  • To be courteous and helpful to Goldsmiths staff, students, contractors and other visitors. 

  • You will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required. 

  • Ensure that you are aware of and aligned with Goldsmiths’ Regulations, Strategy, and Objectives to work together to proactively advance Equality and Diversity. 

  • At all times to help maintain a safe working environment by participating in training as necessary and following the Goldsmiths’ Health and Safety Codes of Practice and Policy. 

  • To co-operate when new methods of working are introduced with the aim of improving the service, work schedules and frequencies. 

  • To adhere to all the College policies and procedures as well as all the Standard Operating Procedures of the Cleaning and Domestic Services department at all times.
