People & Organisational Development

Our vision is to develop a contemporary, solutions focussed HR service to support Academic Heads and Managers and to enhance the staff experience. This forms part of the wider goal to transform Professional Services to develop the student experience and enhance the academic endeavour.

Job overview

As the Assistant Director (People Operations, Data & Systems), you will play a pivotal role in driving the university’s People Strategy, working closely with the Director of People & Organisational Development and their wider leadership team. You will lead the People Operations and Data & Systems services, focusing on ensuring efficient operations, continuous process improvement, and an enhanced employee experience.

Your responsibilities will include managing recruitment, HR systems, people operations, information and reporting. Key projects include Academic Faculty and Professional Services Restructure, HESA, Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap, IR35, Industrial Relations Pay Deductions, and UKVI Audit. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of HR policies and support university-wide projects.

We are looking for a resilient and flexible HR professional passionate about data and systems, who thrives on change, and excels in a fast-paced environment. You will be part of a dynamic HR team currently supporting the university through a major change programme, requiring resilience, flexibility, strategic thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience with data systems and proficiency in data analysis tools, particularly in a higher education setting. Alongside excellent management and interpersonal skills, you will possess strong communication and analytical skills; demonstrating an ability to quickly grasp data requests and to communicate complex data and insights in a clear and compelling way. Creativity, innovation, curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving are qualities that will help you excel.

This role suits someone who thrives on change and can find opportunities to learn and grow from complex situations. It provides the possibility for an ambitious senior HR professional to take on a broader remit and to step into a leadership position. Join us in developing a contemporary, solutions-focused HR service that supports academic heads and managers and enhances the staff experience.
