The role involves teaching and convening core modules across our undergraduate programmes BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics and BA Sociology. The successful candidate will also serve as a personal tutor to undergraduate students, providing academic and pastoral support, and will supervise undergraduate dissertations. The role requires a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and student engagement across the department&rsquo;s undergraduate programmes.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;" data-pasted="true"><strong>About the candidate</strong></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">You will hold a PhD in Sociology or another discipline relevant to the role profile. You will have experience teaching and convening undergraduate modules in any of the areas of social theory, political philosophy / philosophy of ethics or political economy. You will have a proven track record of research and publications at excellent national standard with the ability and plans to to produce research of a quality that is at least &lsquo;internationally leading&rsquo; (3 star in REF terms). With a focus on research coordination and delivery of ACES (AI, Carbon, Equity, Skills), one of the Lab&rsquo;s sub-projects funded by the BFI Challenge Fund, you will work closely with the Foresight Lab Programme Manager, the Lab Director, and ACES Co-Directors at the University of Edinburgh, and Loughborough University), as well as the project&rsquo;s delivery partners, Julie&rsquo;s Bicycle and Sunderland Software City. The project explores the relationship between digital technology providers and European welfare states in the context of data-driven innovation. The candidate will oversee the work package on &lsquo;infrastructures&rsquo; that examines the features and ecosystems of platforms and AI applications that are used by different governments.
