About the department 

The Department delivers the University’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy. The Provost and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange provides academic leadership of this area. The Department is under the strategic management of the Director of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange who reports to the Provost and Pro Vice-Chancellor. The Department as a whole supports: the development of research and knowledge exchange bids; post award management (including statutory reporting); the University’s compliance with codes of conduct, ethics and other regulatory requirements; the University’s REF submission; business enterprise and knowledge exchange, IP and spin outs; civic and public engagement.

About the role

Reporting to: Research Development Manager

The Research Development Officer will be a key contact point for researchers applying to external funders, providing advice on the researchers’ fit with specific funding opportunities, on developing projects, and on the grant application process itself. The role holder will work with the Research Development Manager to develop and implement strategies to boost the quantity, quality and range of external funding activity across the University. This will include maintaining records and reporting on research interests and bidding activity, and contributing to the planning and delivery of research funding events, training, workshops, sandpits and network sessions.

The role holder will provide expert advice and support at the highest standards of service to academic and professional staff across the University. We are seeking a motivated professional, with an established track record of working in a research environment. Flexible and versatile, the role holder will have proven communication, collaboration and organisational skills, in addition to an excellent understanding of the UK funding landscape and processes, in order to build effective relationships across the University
