About the Department

The Graduate School is a hub for Goldsmiths' community of doctoral researchers. It has a College-wide remit to support doctoral research students and the academic staff who supervise and mentor them. It has a dedicated team of administrative staff, and among a wide range of activities it is responsible for producing and overseeing the implementation of the Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research and Training, coordinating the delivery of doctoral research training courses and events, monitoring student progress in liaison with academic Schools, offering advice, guidance and support on a range of issues, and overseeing and administering Doctoral examinations and other processes; please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification (JDPS) in the attachment for further detail.

About the Role

The Dean is an academic leadership role, with oversight of - and responsibility for - Doctoral Research (PGR) and Doctoral Researcher Training at Goldsmiths, including the smooth and effective running of the Graduate School. The Dean reports to the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange (hereafter DVC) who has overall strategic responsibility for PGR matters and who chairs the PGR Board. The Dean will work closely with the DVC on the development of strategic initiatives and partnerships, on ensuring high quality support to PGR students, and on the effective implementation of progress monitoring and reporting mechanisms. The Dean will also work with the Director of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange and their team in coordinating training and other opportunities to bridge the divide between doctoral and postdoctoral career development and progression and ensure that the University meets its obligations under the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. The Dean serves on Research and Enterprise Committee as well as Academic Board and Goldsmiths Leadership Group.
